How to take beautiful photos.

How to take beautiful photos by Narelle Hunter

You don't have to be a professional photographer with expensive equipment to take amazing nature photos. I believe the secret is in the commitment to 'showing up' on a regular basis. Taking a look at the detail with a sense of curiosity and wonder. It doesn't take too much time out of our day but the benefits are well worth it.

Benefits;

* You create wonderful memories and time doesn't feel like its going so fast.

* Your appreciation of nature grows.

* You get out of your own head..worry less...stress less and see the bigger picture.

* You calm your nervous system and tap into your creative, empowered self.

How to take amazing photos?

1/ Get the angle of the light right - Place your self in a place where the light is falling through the trees or on the dewy grass or dripping from the gum leaves. Then wait and see what appears. It might be a bird or an insect or a cloud. Wait and see what decides to reveal itself through your view finder.

2/ Tell a story - Consider the back ground, so the person who might see your photo one day can tell if you are in a rural or city setting etc. What are you trying to show or share?

3/ Be brave and try new ways to photograph what is in your world. Change the angle e.g. Photograph from a low position up towards the sky with a flower also 'looking up.' Think about the colour, depth of field and how you can show if its cold or hot, quiet or noisy, busy or still.

4/ Express how you feel in a photo by firstly connecting with the environment and the details that seem to represent who you are or how you feel e.g. A tall resilient tree or a particular colour, pattern or shape.

5/ Use all of your senses - See, hear, smell, taste, feel the temperature. Amazing photos are taking when photographers are awake to all that we miss when busy, stressed and not present. It is such a gift to others - Bringing yourself into the now and sharing what you find. Enjoy!
